Okay, I get Adoptables. I usually understand adoptable pricing. And yes, I get that popularity is a factor.

But come on. 

I respect the fact that this adoptable managed to sell for that price; clearly they’re doing something right (advertising, hyping, whatever). But it just blows my mind. I recognize it’s not seen as a waste of money to the person buying the adoptable, but seriously. Seriously. 

The point of this confession? I wish I made anywhere near that amount for my artwork. I wish there wasn’t so much attached to the word “adoptable” that people will pay just about anything for one.

I’m sorry but this is not worth even $10 much less $150, goodness. For one, the design isn’t super original and it makes no sense. Neon colored dragons are not cool people, it looks extremely unnatural even if it’s a furry(In small amounts it’s okay, but when it’s everywhere you look like some crazy raver). Also the wings are broken and attached to her lower back, making her incapable of flying. Plus That’s not how double wings work at all(then again there’s barely any muscle to hold up those wings in the first place). Her wings are also way too small, it would not support her body weight. Then we move on to the legs and arms and once again there’s no muscle and also her right leg is growing out of her crotch. Her left hand disappears and like her arms is way too small(you’re hand is practically the size of your face). Her feet would also be unable to support her and the awkward position of the leg make it look like the feet are almost broken or she has a majorly curled leg bone. Back up to the face we see fake eyelashes and hair. Guys, reptiles do not have hair. While the hair can get away somewhat since it’s okay anthro-wise(also some people find it cosmetically appealing), the fake eyelashes make no sense. One last note on the wings, the spikes sticking out of the wings would technically be bone, in other words the bones are glowing?! If that was the case then you would be able to see her skeleton through her skin.

I’m sorry, but it really pisses me off when poorly made work is given a crap load of credit and praise.

Woodpecker Tongues

The woodpecker’s tongue can extend 2/3 its body length. Its tongue is covered in sticky saliva and barbs all over with an ear (a hearing mechanism) at the end of it. So it can listen to its prey. It detects sound. The tongue is so long that it fits its tongue in its head by wrapping around its brain and around its eye sockets. It can move its head/beak up to 15-16 times per second as it strikes a tree. This is incredibly fast. It creates immense forces, 250 more times than astronauts are subjected to. It is 1,000 G’s. The woodpecker has cartilage around the brain that keeps it from shattering.

I would love to have cartilage surrounding my brain. That way I could bash my skull against doors and predators.

For the past 3 years I’ve been compelled to save certain fanart that comes I come across that is whitewashed. I guess I wanted to make a large post about how wrong it is and how they should be ashamed and all that, but this blog is much better so I’m utilizing it.

This came across my dash earlier, and it’s what finally made me snap.

Chell’s face model is based off of Alesia Glidewell, who is Brazilian and Japanese. As in NOT WHITE. And even then, you can look at Chell and tell that she isn’t a white girl. This is Chell:

Fanart of the real Chell is being drowned out by this sea of white girl “Chells”. Come on, fandom. Chell is such an awesome character, we should at least draw her right. Don’t whitewash her.

I don’t want to be a jerk and I really don’t believe in fandom policing, but I really agree with this post.

It would be the same as drawing Mulan as a caucasian girl- it’s kind of offensive and really not something that anyone can claim as being “their own style/taste”.

It’s rare to find a strong female character in video games, one that isn’t white even more so.

I think as an artist you should celebrate her diversity rather than try and cover it up. 

When I see a white Chell I like to give people the benefit of the doubt; they probably don’t know what they’re doing.

Um… I just want to point out that all of those pictures below are like a year old therefore you can’t call out the artists for ‘white-washing’ because they’ve probably improved since then(I know Lintu has for sure). While I agree that getting a character’s ethnicity/color is bad, it’s a common mistake made by a lot of people due to poor references or just simply it’s their interpretation(AKA no refs at all). It’s just the same as yaoi hands, one artist is trying to copy the first artist and trying to make it their own image. Plus on top of all this, society had taught us that most characters are predominately white. Without researching Chell’s model’s background, you would probably assume she’s white.

What I’m trying to say is that it’s not okay to call out artists like this because it’s more on the flaming side than actual critiquing since you’re calling them out and basically saying their art is wrong. Which is an ironic statement considering artists ‘interpret’ their surroundings. Now then if you said that these artists could have not white-washed the character than yeah that’d be okay, it’d be a critique. But to me it just sounds like you’re saying that the art is unacceptable/it’s racist and should be thrown out because the interpretation isn’t perfect. :/
